BIRTH DOULA SERVICES
What is a Doula?
-
In Greek, the word Doula means “a woman who serves”.
A Doula is a trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a woman before, during and shortly after childbirth. A Doula is a compassionate and nurturing supporter who holds space for women. Think of a Doula being a “birth coach”, guiding you every step of the way.
-
There is one significant difference between a Midwife and a Doula. Midwives provide medical care for you during pregnancy, birth, and the immediate postpartum period. Doulas provide you and your family with emotional, informational, and physical support during pregnancy, birth and the immediate postpartum period.
Doulas and Midwives have been working together for centuries. They both support women in different ways throughout their journey, and together, create the perfect birth team. -
Doulas have been known to create a nurturing and safe space for women during their labor and birth journey.
According to a study, people who had a doula were: 39% less likely to have a c-section, 31% less likely to use pitocin to speed up labor, and 12% less likely to have an epidural. -
It is always the right time to hire a Doula!
If you're eager to have a positive experience during your pregnancy, consider hiring a Doula early on in your term, especially if this is your first time expecting. Many expectant parents find that hiring a Doula early on in their pregnancy provides great benefits and altogether more peace of mind.
Whether you just took a pregnancy test, or you are in your third trimester, Doulas are ready to support and join your birth team.
